A State Department spokesperson told CNN that the US is “ready to quickly conclude an agreement based on the EU’s proposals.”
“As the EU said two weeks ago, the text they presented is the best and only basis for reaching an agreement. In the last few days, EU coordinators have been involved in further consultations to help clarify and refine any remaining questions. Those consultations have been completed today and we now await the EU’s next steps.” said the spokesman.
“For our part, our position is clear: we are ready to quickly conclude the agreement based on the EU’s proposals. I do not assume Iran’s position. They have repeatedly said that they are ready to return to the mutual implementation of the JCPOA. As the EU coordinator made clear, this text is the only possible basis for doing so.
“Let’s see if their actions match their words,” the spokesperson added.
The United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump. In the wake of US withdrawal, Iran has increasingly violated agreements made under the deal and expanded its nuclear program.
“The final agreement will protect the right of the Iranian nation and guarantee the lifting of sanctions,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told Borrell.
