COVID-19 gain-of-function research is too risky for Fauci to work with China

Throughout this pandemic, I have led an effort to uncover the source of this virus that has killed more than 6 million people worldwide.

Shockingly, with more than 1 million Americans killed and trillions of dollars spent, last Wednesday was the first congressional hearing on the dangerous, virus-enhancing research, known as gain-of-function, and its link to the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purpose of this hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Spending Oversight is, as our name suggests, to discuss the emerging threat posed by earnings-function research.

Fauci blasted for joke he created Covid-19 in his kitchen: ‘tone deaf’

We heard from a panel of three witnesses – Dr. Richard H. Ebright, Ph.D., laboratory director of the Waxman Institute of Microbiology, Dr. Steven Quay, MD, Ph.D., Atossa Therapeutics, Inc. CEO, and Dr. Kevin M. Esvelt, Ph.D., associate professor of media arts and sciences at the MIT Media Lab — all of whom are exceptionally accomplished experts in the scientific community. We are grateful for his work and for taking the time to appear before the Committee.

As we discussed in the hearing, gain-of-function research is a controversial scientific research method that involves the manipulation of pathogens to give viruses a new element or ability that makes them more contagious or dangerous to humans.

Dr. As Richard Ebright stated at the hearing, “Thinking benefit-of-action research involves creating new health threats – health threats that did not exist in the past and would not have come into existence by natural means for tens, hundreds, or even thousands of years.”

Why in the world would we willingly create a more contagious or more dangerous virus that has the potential to unleash a global pandemic that threatens the lives of millions of people?

Dr. Stephen Quay explained that the goal of the Global Virome Project is to “take approximately 500,000 unknown viruses capable of infecting humans and bring them back to a laboratory near you. What could go wrong?”

Dr. Kevin Esvelt pointed out exactly what could go wrong during the trial. He said, “Scientists never considered that these advances in technology … would allow a skilled terrorist to simultaneously unleash more epidemics than would occur naturally in a century.”

Chief Medical Advisor to the President Dr. We learned during the trial that Anthony Fauci was lying to us – shocking, I know.

Three leading scientists agreed that this was dangerous research. Two out of three said it was entirely for-profit. A third said it was dangerous research and should have gone before the committee.

Although Fauci said the NIH has never funded profit-taking research in Wuhan, it has been reviewed and does not meet the definition set by the Department of Health and Human Services’ P3CO review committee. To evaluate the risks and benefits of such research.

The P3CO Committee was formed in 2017. This follows the suspension of gain-of-function research funding by the Obama administration in 2014 and was only allowed to resume in 2017 due to this new committee’s review process.

We learned that the P3CO committee that is supposed to review these viruses is secret. We do not know the names of the committee members. We do not have any records of their meetings. It is very secret. Congress is not allowed to know. The public is not allowed to know.

We know they have met three times and reviewed over three thousand for-profit research project proposals, none of which were related to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The problem with all of this is that Fauci unequivocally claims that the NIH does not fund profit-making research in Wuhan, but how would he know since the P3CO committee never reviewed the research at the Wuhan lab?

We have learned a lot from this inquiry, but this is just the beginning.

We reaffirmed that Fauci was not honest with us. Yes, NIH funds for-profit research. Yes, it was dangerous. And yes, no one has seen or verified the research.

While there still appears to be a remarkable lack of curiosity on the part of Democrats, I’m sure every member of Congress would agree that we need stronger government oversight of how our tax dollars are being used to create viruses capable of causing pandemics.

We may never know whether the pandemic originated from a lab in Wuhan or occurred naturally, but the emergence of COVID-19 is a reminder that dangerous research conducted in a secretive and authoritarian country is too risky to fund and must be monitored closely. location
